Phil Omorogbe is a corporate attorney at Cooley LLP San Francisco, having worked at other global leading corporate law firms including Kirkland & Ellis, and Proskauer Rose LLP New York. Phil practices general business and corporate law. He represents emerging growth companies in all stages of their lifecycle, as well as venture capital funds, investors and underwriters in their various financing and investment activities. He counsels on general corporate matters, venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, and capital markets transactions.

CALVIN WRIGHT

Calvin, a former Lafayette-Jamaica Scholar, is a seasoned mentor and educator with a diverse academic background spanning Lafayette College, UC Berkeley, Université de Paris, and USC. Currently completing his PhD in Finance and Business Economics at USC's Marshall School of Business, Calvin brings valuable insights from his experience on Wall Street with Bank of America Merrill Lynch and collaborations with Google.


His research at the forefront of Economics and Finance has earned him multiple admissions to esteemed graduate programs, including Columbia, Cornell, UT Austin, and Boston. Calvin is also the founder of The Caribbean Summer Scholars Program, dedicated to guiding top Jamaican high school students to success in competitive US universities. Through his work with College Quo, he continues to make a meaningful impact in the field of education.

VICTORIA PUGLIA

Victoria Puglia is Rhodes Scholar currently pursuing an MPhil in International Relations at the University of Oxford. She was a Marquis and McKelvy Scholar at Lafayette College, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in International Affairs. Victoria was also a finalist for the Truman and Schwarzman Scholarships. Throughout her undergraduate career, Victoria worked with numerous students as a Writing Associate and Spanish Teaching Assistant. She has experience with quantitative and geospatial research on issues of forced migration, refugee livelihoods and empowerment, food security and conflict in Uganda and South Sudan.

ALEX ASHLEY

Alex was a Rhodes Scholar Finalist for Jamaica and the Commonwealth. In 2022, Alex received the George Wharton Pepper Prize for representing the Lafayette ideal. While at Lafayette, he studied Chemistry and Math as a Lafayette-Jamaica Scholar, a scholarship given to one top Jamaican student every year. Alex brings to GradQuo years of experience as a CRLA Level 1 Certified Tutor and Supplemental Instructor for courses in Chemistry.  He is finishing up a PhD in Chemical Engineering at Drexel University and is interested in materials in renewable energy.

CINDY LIN

Cindy is currently pursuing her JD at University of Toronto after graduating in the top 10% of her class at Queen’s University. She wrote her LSAT at 18-years-old. She received the Harry Abramsky Scholarship for attaining a perfect GPA in her third year of university. Throughout her undergraduate career, she was both a Head Teaching Assistant and Teaching Assistant for three different courses in her faculty. Cindy also taught financial literacy classes at Queen’s PennyDrops. 


Cindy is a prolific writer, having served as the Editor-in-Chief of Queen’s Business Review and placing as a Regional Winner for her research in surveillance capitalism, competition law, and business ethics at the Global Undergraduate Awards. She was also Co-President of Queen’s Pre-Law Society and created free LSAT prep resources as a Director on Queen’s Commerce Law Association.


In Cindy's spare time, you can find her hiking mountains, running, or reading a new novel.

Nur Bookwala

Nur graduated summa cum laude from the George Washington University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a concentration in Cellular and Molecular Biology, where she was a Presidential Scholar for all four years. She also pursued minors in Public Health and French. Nur was awarded the Introductory Chemistry Award in her freshman year and was nominated by GW for the Barry Goldwater Scholarship. She was the recipient of the Enosinian Scholars Award for her work on her undergraduate thesis. She also presented at several conferences and won the Women’s Rights and Gender Equality first place prize at the GW Research Showcase. Nur also worked as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for three years while at GW for the biology department.


After graduating from GW, she was awarded a one-year Postbaccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award Fellowship at NIDA/NIH (National Institute for Drug Abuse) in the Behavioral Neuroscience branch. She is currently a research assistant at the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress (CSTS) in the Department of Psychiatry of the Uniformed Services University.


Nur plans to pursue a JD/PhD in psychology and a career in research focused on trauma, psychiatric conditions, and women’s health, and has been accepted into several law schools including NYU, Vanderbilt, and William & Mary.

MARISSA FALCONE

Marissa graduated from Lafayette College with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Anthropology/Sociology in 2020. Her undergraduate research focused on trauma and adverse childhood experiences. Since then, Marissa has been a postgraduate associate at the Yale Child Study Center. Her primary responsibilities include administering clinical assessments and collecting electroencephalogram (EEG) and eye-tracking data. She will begin a doctoral program in Clinical Science this fall at Florida International University and is thrilled to continue research and clinical work relating to childhood anxiety disorders.

Cheriece is the director of PayitForward876, a Jamaican non-profit that helps talented and underserved youth in the Caribbean access tertiary education in the US and Canada. She has full-time and internship experience in Civil, Enviromental, and Operations Engineering at world-renown companies in the respective industry of Real Estate and Construction Management. Cheriece is well-experienced and well-traveled, as she was born in Kingston, Jamaica and has studied abroad in the United Arab Emirates.

JOVANTE ANDERSON

Jovante is an extremely talented writer. In 2018, he copped the Poet Laureate of Jamaica Young Writer's Prize for Poetry. While at Lafayette, Jovante studied Anthropology, Sociology and English as a Lafayette-Jamaica Scholar. Jovante has extensive experience working with students as a Writing Associate and taught several college-level English courses. Currently, he is finishing up a PhD in English Literature at the University of Miami, after which he hopes to take up a tenure-track faculty position (Professor) in his field.

SHAQUIELLE DIAS

Shaquielle strongly believes in the potential of Biomedical Engineering in Caribbean academia and industry. As such, he spent a year as a researcher at the University of California San Diego in the Cartilage Tissue Engineering Laboratory under the supervision of Dr Robert Sah. During his years of clinical practice, he also tutored biomedical engineering students and guided capstone projects.


Dr Dias holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the UWI. He is presently pursuing a Master of Philosophy in Biomedical Engineering focusing on orthopedic research. This summer Shaquielle will be starting doctoral research in Biomedical Engineering at the Translational Tissue Engineering Center at Johns Hopkins University in the Grayson Lab for Craniofacial & Orthopedic Tissue Engineering.


Shaquielle's favorite pass time is cliff jumping and he learned to swim on his first occasion jumping.

Maria is a recipient of the prestigious Schwarzman Scholarship at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China with a MSc in Global Affairs. She graduated from Lafayette College with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Anthropology/Sociology. In undergrad, Maria worked with local high school students throughout their college prep process and has personal experience in navigating the US college system. Maria has worked at various international NGOs working with refugees and asylum seekers. She has research experience in areas of international development, humanitarian aid and migration rights. She is passionate about helping students find opportunities that fit their future aspirations.

ALLAIYAH BARTLEY

Allaiyah was a short listed candidate for the UK Commonwealth Scholarships. Shortly after earning her BSc. Economics - First Class Honours, she came to us with intention of pursuing her Masters in Economics/Data Analytics. Currently, as a GradQuo fellow, she has successfully navigated the graduate school application process and has received offers from the London School of Economics, Drexel University and Boston University. She hopes to join the GradQuo team as a “graduate school matchmaker” in the near future. 


In her free time you can find her in the gym, at the beach, practicing making her own sugar wax, free lance modelling or learning new things!

HYEKYUNG (HALEY) MOON

Doctor of Optometry (OD) Student

Hyekyung is pursuing a doctorate of optometry at University of California, Berkeley, the top optometry school in the United States. Since joining Berkeley Optometry, she has served as class president and as a student ambassador for the Office of Admissions. She is also pursuing summer research on glaucoma as a NEI-funded scholar.


Prior to Berkeley Optometry, Hyekyung pursued a bachelor's and master's degree in Neuroscience and Behavior at Wesleyan University where she was a Wesleyan Mathematics and Science Scholar and a Senior Interviewer in the Office of Admission. During her gap year, she also contributed towards a nationwide, CDC-funded, COVID-19 research at Boston Children's Hospital. Thus, she is excited to advise students interested in healthcare fields and STEM-related programs.

PHILLIP HARDING II

Phillip is a recipient of the Posse Foundation Scholarship with a Master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) focused on Power Systems from Purdue University and a Bachelor's degree in ECE from Lafayette College, the number 1 ranked online program in ECE in the US.


As an electrical design engineer, Phillip has developed expertise in renewable energy and power generation systems. His specialization lies in designing and implementing substations for solar, wind, and energy storage solutions. Phillip is currently on a path towards obtaining his Professional Engineer license, with his sights set on becoming a Lead Engineer.


Phillip is actively working towards a greener and more environmentally conscious future. He is dedicated to sustainable power solutions and determined to make a significant impact in the field of electrical engineering.

Chelsea is currently pursuing a master’s degree in International Comparative Education at Stanford University. Her interests include education data science, sociology of education and politics of education. Before attending Stanford, she completed her bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Government with Honors at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. At Wesleyan, she was a Wesleyan Mathematics and Science Scholar, Vice President of the Wesleyan Student Assembly and Senior Class President. She also spent a year at the University of Heidelberg in Germany funded by the Baden-Wuerttemberg Stipendium and studied German, Political Science and Sociology after graduating from Wesleyan.

Othandrea Downes

Othandrea is currently progressing towards graduating with a distinction in her master’s degree in Economics at the University of the West Indies in 2024. Due to her ardent traits, she was granted the Thomas De La Rue Scholarship for the academic year 2023-2024. Serving as a tutor in the Department of Economics, she takes immense pride in her work, particularly in breaking down complex concepts into easily understandable portions to ensure a solid comprehension for all.

Before embarking on her master’s journey, Othandrea completed her bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science with Honors at UWI in 2022. Looking ahead, she intends to pursue her PhD in Economics which will enable her to hone a career in lecturing and research geared towards public finance and economic development. Her ultimate goal is to contribute substantial research and facilitate discussions aimed at addressing Jamaica’s most prevalent economic challenges.

In her free time, she likes to learn more about marine life discoveries and catch-up on the Real Housewives’ drama!

Karyl Thorpe

Karyl is a vibrant advocate dedicated to empowering youth. A proud Old Girl of St Andrew High School for Girls, Karyl's leadership roles as Deputy Head Girl and President of the Debating Society highlight her commitment to positive change. Karyl's passion shines through her summer talk show series discussing youth issues, collaborations with advocacy groups, and amplification of youth voices on various platforms.

 Currently pursuing a BSc degree in International Relations at the University of West Indies, Mona, Karyl embodies GradQuo's commitment to ongoing growth and youthful exuberance. In the future, she hopes to work as a diplomat to the French Caribbean.

 Additionally, she is an author with her debut novel, Quirk set to be released in September 2024. 

In her spare time, she enjoys dancing, listening to music, singing and reading romance novels.
